The Red Sox have optioned LHP Felix Doubront to Pawtucket and have recalled LHP Hideki Okajima from Pawtucket as their lefty specialists remain unsettled. Doubront is still on the 40-man roster. They started out with LHP Dennys Reyes, moved onto Doubront after he came off the DL recently, and now will try their luck with Okajima. Okajima had an impressive run of three successful seasons with Boston which ended with a bad campaign last year. Basically, they're hoping that Okajima can rebound and that they can catch lightning in a bottle with him, at least for awhile.
The Mets have designated 2B Brad Emaus for assignment and have recalled IF Justin Turner from Buffalo. Emaus was a Rule V Draft pick and must be offered back to Toronto for $25,000. Based on his top prospect status in Toronto's system the Blue Jays will likely take him back. If not, the Mets have ten days to trade Emaus or must offer him to the other 29 teams - including Toronto again - through waivers. Emaus won the starting second base job out of Spring Training but only lasted three weeks on the job. This shouldn't come as a surprise for Mets fans, as the new regime has seemingly developed the philosophy that whoever can play second base will. Turner is a right-handed hitter and a good fielder at second who has struggled offensively in the Majors but has been a decent hitter in the Minors and in Spring Training. He is a Minor League veteran and the Mets are his third organization. Right now it looks like he'll spend most of his time on the bench in the lesser half of a platoon with IF/OF Daniel Murphy at second base, though he should start tonight against Astros LHP Wandy Rodriguez.
